  • One meaning of hit is to strike something forcefully, moving on the road means to make a contact with it. Different things that when move on the road, make contact like soles of our shoes, hooves of the animals, rubber on the tyres etc. So the expression is used to describe that you are going to start your journey on road, or you are ready to leave for something.
