  • This term originated from the Spanish theaters. Audience became interested in the new plays that consisted of adventure. Sword fighting was one of the most important acts. Actors used to wear cloaks and hid some swords or daggers under them. Later, these shows were known as, “cloak-and-dagger” performances. Now, this expression is used for the purpose of entertainment or serious affairs also.

Considerable cloak-and-dagger activity was reported for the removal of current government.
