Etymology:

  • It is believe that there are two different sources of origin of this idiom. In America this term came out from a fair in, which people use to run after greased pigs. One who was successful to catch the pig would bring it home. On the door of English churches a couple, which was able to make a promise that they never fought would take bacon with them to their home. Later this term was used to describe prize or deserving money for participants of any game. In modern context this term explains the efforts of family members to earn livelihood.
