Etymology:

  • This expression is taken from Bible in the New Testament, when Jesus advised and commanded his followers to avoid taking revenge even if someone is hurt badly or insulted. If a person slaps on one of your cheeks then there’s no need to fight rather ‘turn the other cheek’.
