Slow to understand or perceive things, one who does not pick or respond quickly


  • In 19th century, West, American were supposed to be quick on the draws (to bring out pistol from its holder fast) in order to stay safe. If you were slow in drawing your pistol then you were only referred to be fit for the job of undertaking. Later the phrase was extended to include the mind in understanding things late or being unable to figure things out.

The mother of the child asked school teachers to cooperate with her child because he is slow on the draw.
