Something that is equal, nothing to choose or select between,

  • In 1852, an English famous novelist Charles Dickens used this phrase in one of his works. But it has been thought to have originated a bit earlier in the century. We know half of dozen is six, it is up to you which way you say it because it both means the same. So this expression can be referred to say to two same things which have not the slightest difference at all.

To keep you warm either have tea or coffee, as it is six of one and a half of the other.
