Pull No Punches

To hit something with great force and power, attacking something potently, to be honest

Etymology:

  • This expression came from the famous sport boxing. In the game of boxing, if a player tugged back on a punch, he did not hit very hard as he could or held his punch back, thus giving a soft blow. The expression by 1930s was being used to refer to all kinds of activities. Pulling your punch meant to be careful in not hurting anyone, but if you pull no punch it means to be very honest and straightforward, even if it could really offend someone.
