Just Deserts

A much deserving punishment, doomed to get punished

Etymology:

  • When a person fails in a test for not having studied, he gets his just deserts. Actually the expression has two words ‘just’ means justice, fair and right, and the second word “desert” has originated from Latin language which means “to deserve” so the phrase refers to deserve a punishment. People often confuse the word “deserts” with desserts which mean sweet dish and some also confuse it with deserts which are barren regions or waste lands.
