Sharing trouble is in the same unpleasant or worse situation

  • This phrase has ancient Greek origin. In those days, it was believed by the people that passengers sailing in the same boat share same risk or danger until they reach their destiny or their boat safely touch the shores. Over the years, the meaning of this expression was extended to include all people who share same horrid or unlikeable situation, or trouble anywhere in air, land or water.

The plane was jolting a bit in bad weather, so all passengers asked each other to pray as all were in the same boat.
