  • There are strong electric spotlights in every theatre, which throw light beams to highlight the performances presented on stage. In 19thcentury, a beam was produced by heating lime, which is a form of calcium oxide, producing fine white light. This beam was focused on any performer on stage by using a powerful lens. Any one “in the limelight” drew attends of the audience. Today we can use this expression to refer to any per get lots of attention from media is “in the lime light.’
